Ragupathi Venkaiah Award to Vijaya Nirmala

The Andhra Pradesh government is going to confer the prestigious Raghupathi Venkaiah Award on the prolific woman director and Guinness Book world record holder Vijaya Nirmala, the spouse of superstar Krishna.

She will officially receive the award on Ugadi (Telugu New Year Day) at a colorful function to be held at Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Hyderabad, during the presentation of Nandi Awards.

Vijaya Nirmala entered the Tollywood in 1957 as a child artiste in the evergreen hit Panduranga Mahatmyam. She made her debut as heroine in the Malayalam film Bhargavi Nilayam

. In Telugu, her first film as heroine was with the film Rangula Ratnam. She made her debut as director with the film Meena in Telugu. So far, she had directed more than 50 films in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
