Ramante Edenthottam review: A watchable entertainer

Ranjith Sankar

Star Cast

Kunchacko Boban, Anu Sithara

Along with the titles, writer-director Ranjith Sankar gives enough clues about the storyline in Ramante Edenthottam, with the heroine recording her feelings on a video clip using her mobile phone, while driving.

Elvis Chummar (Joju George) is a film producer, who is going through not so good times as his films have not been doing well. At one point he is seen joking to his friend that he loves to sleep around with other women though he is happily married to Malini (Anu Sithara).

Sarkar 3 review: Ram Gopal Varma returns to form thanks to Mr Bachchan | Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen Review: A mundane comedy entertainer | Yeidhavan review: An interesting plot ruined by shoddy execution | Meri Pyaari Bindu review: Frothy and engaging | King Arthur: Legend of the Sword review: A modern, Guy Ritchie canvas | Venkatapuram review: A different crime thriller | Radha review: A passable regular police story

On hearing this, his friend asks what if his wife follows the same routine? Elvis replies that he believes in gender equality and won’t prevent his wife from having the freedom that he enjoys.

But when he faces a situation similar to that in real, Elvis is furious and heartbroken.

The story is about the relationship that Malini shares with a soft spoken widower, Raman (Kunchacko Boban), who owns an environment friendly resort right in the midst of a forest area. Now, how do you define it? Friendship, romance or an extra marital affair?

The director competently leads us to the premise for most part of the first half. But it is while delving deep into the issue that the writing seems to be pretty confused. It’s a serious matter on emotions and relationships that has been dealt with but it all becomes superficial in the end. Well, we won’t discuss further and be spoilsports.

Kunchacko Boban has to look sober and he does it in an impressive manner. Anu Sithara has a complex character and her performance is fine. Watch out for brilliant show from Joju George. Ramesh Pisharady’s witty one liners are funny and Sreejith Ravi performs well.

The Aju Varghese episode stands out like a sore thumb and barely gels with the story inany way.

Ramante Edenthottam, amidst the ups and downs, manages to present some pertinent questions about marital relationships.

Ramante Edenthottam review - Verdict: Watchable.
