Director Karthik Subbaraj’s Iraivi is getting polarized reviews; few critics are raving the film while others feel it is just an average emotional drama. But producers’ community has a different story to tell as they feel that the movie has shown them in bad light.

We all know that Karthik Subbaraj’s second movie, Jigarthanda had a delayed release due to his ego clash with the film’s producer, Kathiresan.  In Iraivi, Karthik has sketched the villain character resembling Kathiresan, which has pissed off Kollywood producers including KE Gnanavel Raja, who has also bankrolled the film.

In a Whatsapp audio, Gnanavel has said that he deeply regret for his association with Iraivi. The peeved producer said “Unlike others, Karthik Subbaraj doesn’t know the pain of becoming a director as he never worked as an assistant to anyone. CV Kumar has introduced Karthik in Pizza and now with Iraivi , the director has not only overshot the budget and put the producer in an insecure state”.

Gnanavel says that Karthik Subbaraj had promised them to complete Iraivi in 7.5 crores but the film ended up in 13.5 crores. Gnanavel also concludes that he will stand with Kollywood producers and will cooperate for necessary action, which will be soon taken against the erring director.
It is said that leading producers have recently watched Iraivi at a preview theater and they are planning to issue red card for Karthik Subbaraj or to get back the extra 6 crores budget overrun caused by the director
