Rohini Paneerselvam, the General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Theater Owners and Multiple Association met the media in T Nagar, Chennai.
"So far, theater owners faced around 1400 crores loss. We have to pay our bills, bank dues and deposit the salary amount to our employees. The theater industry is the most affected business sector because the Government is not providing any relaxation to us", said Paneerselvam.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, theaters across the country remains shut and no new releases have hit the screes since March end.
"When flights with 100% occupancy and no social distancing norms come daily to Chennai, why is Government is not allowing us to operate? We are ready to implement all the rules and regulations provided by the Government", he added.
Talking about the OTT releases, Paneerselvam said: "We saw it as a threat initially but all the OTT releases failed big time. Audiences love to watch films the second time on OTT but they always prefer theaters".
On Ponmagal Vandhal's direct OTT release, Paneerselvam said: "As of now, we are stubborn in our decision. Let Sivakumar, Jyotika, and their family members release their films on OTT platforms".
