Movie Title

NV Nirmal Kumar

Star Cast

Vijay Antony, Aksha Pardasany, Arul Dass, Manohar

Vijay Antony, whose debut acting venture ?Naan? was well received is back with his second film ?Salim?. Directed by NV Nirmal Kumar, Salim?s teaser promised us another gripping thriller.

The story starts off by establishing to the audience that Salim(Vijay Antony) is a calm, mild-mannered doctor who practices Ahimsa and this earns him many brickbats from the people around him. Salim decides to marry Nisha(Aksha Pardasany)only to find that she always tries to boss around people. After a series of events, Salim finally succumbs to the happenings around him and decides to take the law in his own hands.

Vijay Antony delivers a performance which requires him to do nothing more than what he did in ?Naan?. Unlike his songs in Naan(Remember Makayala Makayala?), his numbers in Salim do hamper the pace but his re-recording gives the movie the required intensity.

Aksha Pardasany plays a role that is bizarrely written. Almost all the supporting characters in the movie have been written to frustrate the protagonist. Editing by Rajesh complements the movie in a big way in keeping the shots slick and suave.

The first half of the movie meanders along with events trying to increase the frustration in the lead character one by one. Close to the interval point, we are shown a sequence of random montages which forms the second half. The second half takes the cake and has many rousing moments with the dialogues in particular striking a chord with the viewers.

As far as the negatives go, the brilliant second half makes us wonder the need for such a dragged out first half. You don?t actually root for the character of Salim in some scenes where he remains too patient, border lining on unrealism.

Nevertheless, ?Salim? is a decent enough thriller that compensates for its weak first half by a smarter second half and some composed acting by Vijay Antony.

Verdict: Above average
