South India's leading and prestigious award SIIMA2021 was held in Hyderabad on Sep 18 and 19.
Movies that were released in 2019 and 2020 were considered and many leading stars took part in the event despite the pandemic threat, which shows the respect they have for SIIMA.
Karthi's Kaithi was chosen as the best film for 2019 while Suriya's Soorarai Pottru won the best film for the year 2020.
Dhanush (Asuran) and Nayanthara (Viswasam) won the Best Actor and Actress Awards in the popular category for the year 2019. Karthi (Kaithi) and Manju Warrier(Asuran) won the Critics Choice for the Best Actor and Best Actress respectively for the same year.
For the year 2020, Suriya won the Best Actor (Soorarai Pottru) Ashok Selvan won the Critics Choice for the Best Actor (Oh My Kadavule). For the same year, Aparna Balamurai (Soorarai Pottru) won the Critics Choice Award for the Best Actress and Aishwarya Rajesh won the Best Actress for Ka Pae Ranasingam.
Vetrimaaran won the Best Director for Asuran in 2019 and Sudhan Kongara grabbed the Best Director Award for Soorarai Pottru in 2020.
Veteran actress Sheela and noted director K Viswanath were given Lifetime achievement awards and a tribute to SP Balasubramanian was also held. Late actor Vivek was given the Best Actor in a comedy role for Dharalaprabhu and Yogi Babu received it on his behalf.
