SR Prabhu:

The young, dynamic producer SR Prabhu of Maanagaram, Kaithi, and NGK fame took to his Twitter page to say that the statement war between theaters and producers should stop. Instead, one should take steps to survive the COVID19 pandemic.

Due to the novel virus outbreak, theaters across the globe have been closed so producers are trying to ink a deal with OTT platforms for a possible direct release.

In Tamil cinema, Jyotika's Ponmagal Vandhal produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment and Keerthy Suresh's Penguin produced by Stone Bench Films are all set to directly premiered on Amazon Prime from May 29 and June 19 respectively. Besides these two films, Amazon Prime has also picked Shoojit Sircar's Gulabo Sitabo starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan,Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi: Human-Computer,  Malayalam film Sufiyum Sujathayum and two Kannada films French Biriyani and Law

Leading multiplex chains including INOX, PVR Cinemas, and Carnival Cinemas have expressed their strong opposition to this move of the producers. The Producers Guild of India also sent out a counter-statement saying that the exhibitors' threatening statement against producers who have signed for a direct  OTT release is unacceptable.

Reacting to this statement wars, SR Prabhu tweeted "OTT & Theatrical r different avenues. If at all someone to worry, it’s the nontheatrical segment. Also, film producers r the only source of content providers for theatres & these 2 are bound for life. So let’s try to survive this pandemic to start over instead of statement wars!".
