Jos Thomas
Biju Menon, Innocent, Ineya
Director Jos Thomas’ Swarna Kaduva, scripted by Babu Janardhan, is a rehash of the scenarist’s earlier venture, Vaasthavam. The protagonist, played by Biju Menon, seems to be styled after the actor’s earlier hit Vellimoonga. Quite a smart idea indeed but it fails to impress much mainly due to its incompetent making.

Rini Eapen Mattummel (Biju Menon) is a wily confidant to a wealthy Thrissur based businessman, played by Innocent. The story gets momentum early on when the moneybags’ car hits a pedestrian and calls for his aide for help. It all takes an ugly turn soon and a person gets killed in the process.
The film is about how Rini tries to milk every situation for his own benefits until certain unprecedented happenings come in his way. His true colours are evident at a situation when he is shockingly rude to his mother and sister.
Now, the problem here is quite obvious. There is a serious storyline here, which has been presented as a comedy. The result is that there are efforts to generate comedy out of every available situation. How on earth can a murder be handled in a comic manner?
There are also numerous plots and subplots that are conveniently forgotten and the film ends up as a rather lazy effort, made without any real conviction or dedication.
Biju Menon is good, but he is repeating his trademark mannerisms once again. Innocent too plays his branded accent, though it is justified since his character is based in Irinjalakuda but looks sorry with an ill-fitting wig.
The heroines have limited roles to play but Ineya comes up with a good show. Hareesh Perumanna is impressive as well.
Swarna Kaduva has several fine elements that needs to be appreciated, but ends up as a confused attempt. Now decide on your own.
