Kerala government had given permission to open the theatres in the state from Jan 5 onwards. However, the theatres remained closed, with the various organizations demanding relaxations in entertainment tax and electricity charges.
Now, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced several relaxations during the talks with film organizations on Jan 11. The decisions from the government have been welcomed wholeheartedly by the industry.
Almost every prominent personality from the industry, including Mammootty and Mohanlal, have expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for giving a helping hand to the industry during the crisis period.
The theatres in Kerala is expected to open from Jan 13 onwards, with the Thapalapathy Vijay starrer Master as the first major release.
The government has decided to exempt the entertainment tax from 2021 January to March. The fixed electricity charges will be reduced by 50 %. There will be more time to renew the various licenses.
The theatres in Kerala have been remaining closed since Mar 11, 2020.
