After the brilliant Maheshinte Prathikaram, all eyes were on filmmaker Dileesh Pothen to know whether he can live up to that one. With Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, he has taken Malayalam cinema to an altogether different level.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this one is absolute magic!

It all begins with a rather cute misunderstanding and a small build up between Prasad (Suraj Venjarammoodu) and Sreeja (Nimisha Sajayan). They live in Vaikom and though she hates her for creating a confusion initially but eventually it blossoms into a beautiful relationship.

Ivan Thanthiran review: A fast moving fun ride | Oru Cinemakkaran review: An honest movie | Role Models review: A big disappointment | Okja review: Emotional and politically compelling | The Big Sick review: Light-hearted, heart-melting romcom | Baby Driver review: A breezy musically driven crime romance | Transformers: The Last Knight review - Fails to deliver

The couple move to Kasaragod after their families oppose their romance and as they try to make a living, an incident happens.

That introduces us to Prasad (Fahadh Faasil), a petty criminal, who steals Sreeja’s golden chain and swallows it, while she was asleep during a bus journey. The rest of the story tells us the intriguing happenings that follow.

This is a genuine story presented with total honesty. The characters are real people and there are no real efforts to categorise them into various shades, which is such a delight. The emotions of each character affect us and Dileesh masterfully blends it all in a delightful manner.

The screenplay and dialogues by Sajeev Pazhoor and Shyam Pushkaran, Rajeev Ravi’s visuals and Bijibal’s music are top notch.

It’s the performances that has taken the film to another league. Suraj Venjarammoodu excels as Prasad and debutante Nimisha Sajayan performs with great confidence. Alancier comes up with another remarkable show. In fact, all the policemen in the film needs a round of applause for being so natural.

But then, this film belongs to Fahadh Faasil. Here is one actor who makes you watch him in awe in every role that he plays. If you don’t know who he is while going for this film, there are chances that you would believe he is actually a robber in real life! Okay, if that description didn’t make much sense, one would definitely say, he steals your heart with another splendid performance.

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is unconventional. But even then it would appeal to every viewer. Two big thumbs up and a never to miss recommendation for this gem!
