Thupparivaalan review- Solid action thriller

Star Cast

Vishal, Prasanna, Bhagyaraj, Vinay Rai

With Thupparivaalan, Mysskin has proven that to make a world class action film, you don't really have to go to exotic foreign locales. Instead, all a director should have is a clear vision and solid writing, which is why Thupparivaalan stands tall!

An eccentric yet intelligent detective Kaniyan Poongundran  (Vishal) refuses to take up the missing case of an arrogant rich man's daughter for which he promises Rs 50 lakhs but agrees to investigate a dog's murder case brought by an innocent kid, who has his pocket money to pay as fee. The boy's case lead to several mysterious murders and unsolved crimes. Can Kaniyan Poongundran crack it?

Lucknow Central review: The most engaging thriller of the year

Just like all Mysskin films, Thupparivaalan takes its own time to establish characters and initial screenplay flow to the core plot. Once the director sets everything, there is no looking back and he completely makes us glued to our seats to watch this edge of the seat action thriller. If violence is an art, Mysskin is Indian Picasso, the scene where Vinay stands behind the bathroom door with blood stained clothes and enjoys his cup of coffee is just poignant.

The action sequences in Thupparivaalan are world class, especially the twenty minutes climax scenes shot in Pichaavaram is truly on a different level and the restaurant fight with Chinese stuntmen is hair-raising. Though there is no standalone comedy track in the film, Mysskin provides subtle humor throughout.

Thupparivaalan is Vishal’s best film since Pandiya Naadu. The actor lived like a detective, his quirky mannerisms, dialogue delivery, body language and effortless stunts convince us that no other Tamil actor could've pulled off Kaniyan Poongundran like Vishal.

Prasanna has been limited to a character artist who he deserves a better role, whereas Vinay Rai as the ruthless baddie is a revelation. While we are not able to appreciate the annoying Anu Emmanuel as Mallika, Andrea Jeremiah looks stylish and carries the role of Harini with great élan.

Veteran actor Bhagyaraj is top class as Sugumar as he not only looks different but needs to be appreciated for his subtle mannerism and dialogue delivery.

Thupparivaalan's another biggest strength is Arrol Corelli 's impressive background score and Karthik Venkatraman's cinematography is brilliant in action sequences.

Overall, we highly recommend Thupparivaalan . It's a solid watch for this weekend, just book your tickets and go!
