Prakash Raj?s Un Samayal Arayil is a faithful remake of Ashique Abu?s Malayalam superhit Salt ?n? Pepper. It is the story of two matured adults in their 40?s slowly falling in love over their liking for food. It tries to weaves together taste, flavour and love but due to a wafer thin script drags, especially the second half.

Kalidasan (Prakash Raj), an archaeologist is a chronic bachelor and is a born gourmet. Gowri (Sneha) is a dubbing artiste, who loves cooking which she had picked from her mother. Due to a wrong call, they converse and soon realise their love for ?kutty dosa?. Food plays an important role but they are unable to express their feelings due to their shy nature, insecurity and misunderstandings crop up.

There is every chance that you will feel hungry even as you are inside the theatre, as this story is being narrated with food as the backdrop. The story begins with yummy frames which shows delicious dishes which are well known in Tamil Nadu.

The freshness of the food on screen keeps you hungry in the first half but you lose your appetite in the second half as the knots in the plot take too long to unravel. The film has its moments, but certain scenes are far from convincing. Like a tribal who is there in the story without much of relevance.

Among the actors Prakash Raj does a good job, and the way love develops for Sneha is expressed through his eyes. Sneha does a neat job, while Thambi Ramaiah is no patch as the cook compared to Baburaj who did the original.

The film is slow paced and since the film was made as a trilingual there are far too many lip sync issues. The fire is not there in Prakash Raj ?Sneha romance and Ilayaraja?s music and BGM is nothing much to talk about.
