Welcome back to the world of chills and thrills and scares, the hottest genre in K-town! Debutant director Srinath Ramalingam’s Unakenna Venum Sollu is a sincere attempt but has taken audience for granted as the execution falls flat.

The story seem to be well orchestrated so that few scary moments can be created here and there. Where it falters is in the lack of believabilty in the scenes that feature the spirit, and its bloody trail: there are a couple of scenes that send a shiver down your spine, but then it all becomes familiar after a while.

Karthik (Deepak Paramesh) and Pooja (Jaqlene Prakash) are in a live-in relationship. When Pooja comes to know that she is pregnant, her friend advises to opt for abortion but Karthik is against it. Later, when Karthik loses his job and goes to Singapore to earn money, Pooja has no other option but to give birth and leave the child at an orphanage and tells him that the kid passed away! After the incident, the couple splits and now Pooja is married to Shiva (Gunalan Morgan) and they have a child too.

When Pooja and Shiva come to Chennai to treat their son, who is suffering from a dangerous disease, they experience paranormal activity in their guest house. Later, an exorcist Mathew (Mime Gopi) tells that the girl child Daisy (Anu), who was born to Karthik and Pooja is the ghost. The rest of the film tells us how the exorcist sends back Daisy to her world!

The basic drawback of Unakenna Venum Sollu is that every actor on screen fails to give natural performances. They all mouth dialogues as if they are reading it out.

Forget the performance, the cinematography and background score too are not effective enough to send chills down the spine. The only good moment in the film is the innovative climax, where we witness novel ideas like hypnotherapy and four different scenes getting interlinked.

Overall, Unakenna Venum Sollu fails to impress
