Star Cast

The major part of director Jiju Asokan’s Urumbukal Urangarilla is about a group of thieves and their interesting lives.

After an introductory sequence that stops pretty abruptly, the fun begins when a young man Manoj (Vinay Forrt) tries to steal a bag from Asan (Sudheer Karamana), while they are travelling in a bus. Asan, an ageing thief himself, catch hold of the novice and he takes the youth to Benny (Chemban Vinod Jose), a professional in the trade, to master the art.

From then on, Benny start giving training to his junior, until the guru is nabbed by the cops following a failed adventure. Soon after Manoj also joins his senior in the jail.

It is the effort to give more seriousness and thrills to this storyline that stands in the way of this film from becoming a genuine entertainer. There are some fine sequences, thanks to impressive performances from most of the actors. The highlight of the film could be the realistic portrayal of the film and those hilarious dialogues, with enough doses of double meaning fun.

But the uncanny resemblance that the film has to the pattern of some of the recent Mollywood releases, in effect takes away all the fun.

Vinay Forrt, who recently got much appreciation for his comedy in Premam, is in good form. But it is Chemban Vinod Jose, who steals the show here with a brilliant show. Sudheer Karamana is another actor who is worth a mention.

Urumbukal Urangarilla may not offer many surprises and may not be that great for a discerning viewer. But even then this one has its moments for sure and ends up as a decent entertainer, especially when compared to many our recent releases. Decide on your own now.
