Balaji Mohan?s second film Vaayai Moodi Pesavum produced by Varun Manian?s Radiance Media is refreshingly fresh, quirky and innovative. It is one of the best romcom?s laced with satire in recent times, and a lead pair that crackles. And the director himself as the catalyst, a sort of ?Sutradhar? in the role of a news anchor ably takes the story forward.

The story is set in an imaginary hill station Panimalai, where we are introduced to a host of crazy characters. The plot is driven by a news anchor (Balaji Mohan) of Prime News, whose only aim is get TRP?s for his channel. The central character is salesman Aravind (Dulquer Salmaan), an orphan and happy-go-lucky good talker who can sell a fridge to an Eskimo! He meets Dr. Anjana (Nazriya), a confused, soft spoken girl who is unable to express her feelings properly and has a dominating fianc?e who is a control freak.

Added to that here are other characters who are hilarious and cannot express their feeling in a fitting manner like the Health Minister Sundaralingam (Pandiarajan), Superstar Boomesh (John Vijay), Kudikara Sangam Thalaivar Ravi (Robo Shankar), a feudal landlord (Vinu chakravarthi) and Anjana?s step mother (Madhoo). One day, people in the scenic hill station get affected by ?dumb flu? and lose their voice and state government issues an order banning people from talking to avoid spreading of this contagious disease!!!

Balaji Mohan has a whacky concept that every problem in the world can be sorted out by talking it out. Some people have the knack to communicate while others flounder, is bought out beautifully by the director. And television news channels aggravate the situation and make everything sensational these days!

In the second part, VMP is like a silent movie reminding you of Charlie Chaplin movies like Modern Times. The characters expressing themselves without any dialogue?s and lots of symbolisms, with the message loud and clear that speaking the right way is important to achieve your goals.

Dulquer Salmaan is riveting and makes a smashing debut in Tamil. His Tamil diction and dialogue delivery is perfect. Here is one actor who keeps growing in terms of talent, with each new film. And after some indifferent performances in Tamil, making a total impact is Nazriya. She nails the characters self- abasement perfectly and her soft romance with Dulquer crackles. The other characters like Arjun, Madhoo, Pandirajan, Robo Shankar, John Vijay sync with the plot and are treat to watch.

Cinematographer Soundararajan has made Munnar where it was shot even more beautiful, while Sean Roldan?s music is in groove with the plot, especially the BGM in the second half. On the downside, the second half drags a bit and some trimming would have helped.

On the whole, VMP is thoroughly enjoyable. Balaji Mohan has reinvented the romcom formula. Go have your share of fun and chill. It is like having a satisfying meal.

Verdict - Good
