Sidharth Bharathan

Star Cast

Kunchacko Boban, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Rachana Narayanankutty

Actor turned filmmaker Sidharth Bharathan, who directed Nidra and Chandrettan Evideyaearlier, has presented a heist drama this time.

A gang of petty thieves led by Koutta Sivan (Kunchacko Boban) plans to rob a local jewelry. Pradeesh (Shine Tom Chacko), Gilbert (Manikantan) and Wilson (Chemban Vinod Jose) are all introduced with their escapades that shows their nature.

Then there is Dayanandan (Suraj Venjarammoodu), who has lost his job after the bar where he was working closed down. His wife (Rachana Narayanankutty) is angry with him for his drinking and irresponsible nature.

Another track that proceeds along with has two rival political outfits with their party offices facing each other, separated by a road.

The film is essentially about how all these tracks join at a certain point. There is a fairly good premise here but it all takes quite a bit of time and a rather lazy detailing that seems to go on and on. The situations at times become dramatic and there is a certain eagerness to add comedy even during serious moments.

Well, those may be the minuses, but even then this one qualifies as a decent entertainer, thanks mainly to some stellar performers. There are some references to some of the topical issues, which needs to be applauded. Jayesh Nair’s visuals andPrashanth Pillai’s music add to the effect.

In one of his finest performances, Kunchacko Boban comes out of his chocolate boy image and gives an honest show. He is good and convincing. Suraj Venjarammoodu onceagain proves what a talent he is. Just weeks after his brilliant show in Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, he comes up with a character of an entirely different dimension. Shine, Manikantan, Chemban and Rachana are all impressive.

Varnyathil Aasanka may be far from perfect, but it’s a genuine effort for sure.
