Dhanush is back with his 25th film. Produced by his home banner Velai Illa Pattadhari (VIP) is a rollicking fun ride. It?s pure unadulterated masala laced with all essential ingredients that work with mass audiences. Writer, director and cinematographer R Velraj has made a dream debut with a perfect commercial mix.

The film is dedicated to students and its highlight is Dhanush, the screenplay, dialogues and music. All this packaged with mother sentiments and romance is sure to connect with a broad spectrum of today?s audiences.

Raghuvaran (Dhanush) is an unemployed engineer who lives with his loving mother (Saranya), younger brother Karthik (Hrishikesh) and strict father (Samuthirakani). Raghu is an upright guy who finds it difficult to find a job which he loves and is not willing to settle for something that comes his way.

He is constantly humiliated by his dad for being a loser in comparison with his younger brother a successful IT guy. The girl living next door, Shalini (Amala Paul) a medical student falls in love with him. And in a crucial moment he lets down his mother the only person who supports him, which leaves him heartbroken and devastated.

The first half of the film has its best moments with comedy, soft romance and terrific punch lines. In the second half the film becomes more emotional and has a climax you can predict but is executed well. Dhanush is one actor who clearly knows where his strengths lie. He is like a chameleon who doesn't just 'play' characters, he 'becomes' them and he lives the role of Raghuvaran. His eyes and body language alone convey volumes of pain and repressed anger of millions of educated youth of our country who are forced to settle down with jobs they get.

Amala Paul shines once again as Shalini. She looks beautiful and is apt for the role. Saranya as Dhanush?s mother leaves a lasting impression. Samuthirakani as hero?s father is aptly cast, while Vivek?s comedy in the second half is enjoyable. Hrishikesh as hero?s younger brother makes a neat debut while Amitesh the ?Amul Baby? villain needs to improve. Songs by Anirudh is a plus point especially emotional Amma Amma.. song.

On the whole, VIP is satisfaction guaranteed for those looking for some fun and a good time at the movies. Die hard fans of Dhanush, don't miss this one!
