'Tamizhan da' - Hip hop goes seriously Tamizh
Tamil pop has been around for a while, we have even had the soup song that was all the rage the world over, and now strap up for some pulsating hip hop in Tamil.
Purplenote has just launched the music album Hip Hop Tamizha in Chennai, the city where Tamil songs are in great demand even in trendy pubs, bars and wherever else the 20-somethings gather. The 11 track chart is the debut album of Hip Hop Tamizhan, a group of young musicians.
There is nothing wannabe about our album, says Adhi, the group's mentor and rapper . His lyrics are a little cheeky, a bit snarky, and occasionally lean towards the masculine point of view.
At the launch, Aaron, an American researcher hailed the music as India's first bona fide Tamil hip hop while the Amercian underground musician Sol, who released the album said their music had universal appeal.
He should know, he was 24 on the US Billboard when Adele topped the charts at number 1. The launch at Sathyam Cinemas, was followed by a live concert that was pulsating, throbbing with energy, and lyrics that left you smiling some.
