Aarushi murder case: Allahabad HC acquits Talwars

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court pronouncing its verdict in the 2008 Noida double murder case of Aarushi Talwar and her domestic help Hemraj, acquitted the parents of Aarushi.

On May 16, 2008, 14-year-old Aarushi was found dead at her Noida-based flat. So what happened in the flat?.

It was initially suspected that Hemraj had killed Aarushi. However, the case took a shocking turn when Hemraj's body was recovered two days later from the terrace of the same flat.

However later, Aarushi's parents, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, were sentenced to life after a court in Uttar Pradesh convicted them for the gruesome killings of their daughter and their domestic help Hemraj in 2013.

The probe into the double murder hogged the limelight for months on end and not only divided public opinion on who killed Aarushi, but also gave rise to several theories. Besides, a book and a film have been made on the sensational case.

Rajesh Talwar was arrested seven days after the murder and spent two months in jail before getting bail. Both Rajesh and his wife, Nupur, has been in jail since November 2013 were sentenced to life imprisonment after a court in Uttar Pradesh convicted them for the gruesome killings. 

Last month, Nupur Talwar, the convict in this case, was granted a three-week parole by the Allahabad High Court to visit her ailing mother.
