Near stampede at Rajaji Hall even as preparations for Karunanidhi's burial begin

Chennai: Free for all at Rajaji Hall as barricades have been broken. Nobody is being allowed to go near Karunanidhi's casket. Lakhs waiting to catch a glimpse of their leader lying in state inside Rajaji Hall and the waiting is clearly getting to them.

Emotions have been running high in Tamil Nadu ever since Karunanidhi was hospitalised two weeks ago. His body was taken to his Gopalapuram residence last night, followed by CIT Colony, after which it was taken to Rajaji Hall.

Meanwhile, Earth moving equipment arrive at Marina Beach after the Madras HC nod for the Karunanidhi's burial here. The Dravida movement leader will be buried next to his mentor, C N Annadurai or Anna as he is popularly called. Annadurai was the founder-leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and was considered to be more than a comrade to Karunandihi, who referred to him as his brother.

Tamil Nadu's main opposition party had moved the court last night after the AIADMK government rejected its request for allowing the burial of Karunanidhi on the famed Marina sands.
