New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) education wing has suggested that schools in metros should run for 12 hours, from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, says a report in the Indian Express.
The RSS' response came after the Narendra Modi government invited suggestions for the new education policy.
In a proposal, submitted to the BJP-led government, Vidya Bharati, the education wing of the Hindu nationalist RSS, has recommended that schools in big cities should work for longer hours to teach children more languages, and to make life easier for their working parents.
According to reports, the RSS wing has proposed that a linguisitic university be opened for students who want to master languages and linguistic skills. 'It's easy for children to learn languages in childhood. That's why they should be taught various languages, their mother tongue, Sanskrit, Hindi, English and regional languages.'
However, the proposal opposed the co-education and said that boys and girls should not spend 12 hours a day with each other. 'At a time when the co-ed schools face numerous issues, 12-hour classes cannot have both girls and boys together,' the proposal said.
