Kolkata, Sept 1 (IBNS) Digital major Sony India on Thursday announced their ambitious business plans to take the market in Eastern India by a storm during the upcoming festive season of Durga Puja.
While speaking at the promotional event in Kolkata, Sony India General Manager Sunil Nayyar informed that the company plans to generate a sale of Rs. 245 crores, leading to a 48% growth over last year, banking on attractive offers and new innovative product line ups to attract the customers.
"Eastern India remains a very important market for Sony India and we are looking to further consolidate our position. Durga Puja festive period is extremely important for Sony since every year almost 35% of our total sales are achieved during the festive period," said Nayyar at a press conference.
Sony plans to offer alluring items to customers on purchase of their products that includes digital photo frames, Sony Clock Radios, 4GB pen drives and Airtel TV subscription for 2 months with Bravia TV sets, 4GB memory cards with Sony Cybersot cameras and carry bags with both Cyber-shot and Handycam range of products.
Apart from the free gifts there is a "Home Theatre Combo Offer" with discounts extending upto Rs. 4000 along with 0% interest schemes for easy payment of price money.
Sony has supped up their existing line up of consumer electronic goods with emphasis on Bravia LED TV sets, Cyber-shot digital cameras and Vaio range of laptops.
Sony is offering "X-Reality" technology for Bravia TVs along with internet facilities and even full 3D High Definition (HD) capability for 9 of the 15 LED models and they plan to sell 60000 units to post a growth of 88% during the festive season over last year sales.
"Sony has introduced X-Reality which optimizes every pixel to provide the best picture quality and boasts the widest line up with15 new products from 22" to 65"," Nayyar remarked.
Sony is looking to infuse more vigour in the sales of the already popular Cyber-shot range of digital cameras with HD movie function in 7 models along with the exiting virtuoso known as the H range that offers high zoom for improved picture quality and Sweep Panaroma technology.
"Cyber-shot has been the number one player in the camera market in East India and we are expecting a groth of 62% that will give us 47% market share during the Durga Puja festive period from August to October," Nayyar said.
Nayyar highlighted the grand initiatives of Sony towards promoting the Vaio range of laptops by informing that they will offer 62 models in 16 colour variants that can be customized according to one's wishes.
"We have just launched the "More Colour, More Style" campaign with Kareena Kapoor and we expect to sell 15000 units this festive season, which will account for 100% growth over last season," he said.
Nayyar stated that Sony plans to increase the distribution network from 600 at present to 700 outlets and Sony plans an investment of Rs.15 crore for marketing activities.
Upon query Nayyar said that Sony does plan to officially venture into the tablet pc market in India very soon but the launch dates of the products are currently uncertain.
