Why PK presses all the wrong buttons
- Sunil Rajguru
Aamir Khan's PK released on December 19 to great controversy which promises to rage on into the New Year as certain groups demand its ban. A look at how it probably presses all the wrong buttons when looked through the eyes of a hardliner...
(Note: This is full of spoilers.)
Nudity et alia: Right from the very first scene there's nudity when the alien PK (Aamir) walks down on Earth. Aamir's nudity is shown from various vantage points all the while blocking enough to ensure a passage by the censors.
There's the bouncing car which features regularly throughout the movie and one would think that people regularly have sex in cars all over India just like America. If 3 Idiots had students taking off their pants, bending down and showing their behinds then PK has a media baron doing the same (Boman Irani).
The film ends with more nude aliens prominent among them being Ranbir Kapoor in a guest role. (To be fair to Ranbir, he shot for a similar scene in Saawariya.)
The scene where the leading hero puts his hand into a (covered) man's bottom is also unprecedented.
This can well be opposed by hardliners of all religions and all manner of groups.
Love Jihad: This is the flavour of the season and any movie that shows anything remotely to that effect will be protested against. In PK, a Hindu girl (Anushka Sharma) falls in love with a Muslim boy (Sushant Singh Rajput).
To make matters worse, there's a prominent kissing scene at the beginning of the movie. Love Jihad being a burning political issue adds an extra dimension to the controversy.
