Mahendra Singh Dhoni or MSD as he is popularly known, enjoys love and affection to an extent which only a few cricketers have been lucky enought to experience during their playing career. A glimpse of the veteran is enough to send fans into a state of frenzy, as evident from the Chennai Super Kings’ practice sessions which boast of full houses.
However, the 38-year-old has not been been a part of the Indian team since the semi-final of the World Cup 2019, resulting in questions over his eligibility for a spot in the squad for the upcoming World T20. A quality performance in the 13th edition of the IPL was termed necessary by the selectors and coach Ravi Shastri, for selection.
Sadly, there are several questions which have been raised over whether the edition will eventually go ahead due to the coronavirus which has wrecked havoc. Many believe that this could go on to cost the veteran a spot in the World T20 squad.
However, anyone who has followed Indian cricket closely will certainly agree that all these factors carry less importance, if we consider the impact that MS Dhoni has on a game in the shorter formats. Dhoni is extremely shrewd with regard to his understanding of the game, enabling him to put pressure on the batsman and force him to make mistakes.
Here are five reasons why the wicket-keeper batsman should be selected in the World T20 squad irrespective of whether the 13th edition of the IPL is held or not.
