Virat Kohli has been unsuccessful as a captain in IPL. It has been over a decade but Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are yet to taste their maiden IPL triumph. Kohli is the most successful captain for India in Test format beating the record of MS Dhoni.
When Kohli leads India in the limited-overs, he has a certain Rohit Sharma to consult to regarding the decisions he wants to make. Till the time MS Dhoni was playing in the international circuit, he was always the go to man for Kohli. While in red-ball cricket he has someone like Ajinkya Rahane to assist him.
However, the situation stands to be a bit tricky in IPL as he is a lone warrior, who is certainly not afraid to accept his mistakes. But sometimes it costs his team big. Captain Kohli took at least two mind-boggling decisions in their match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
RCB were three down, batting first, when Kohli decided all-rounder Shivam Dube should be promoted ahead of AB de Villiers. The decision did not turn out in favour of the side as Dube could score only 23 runs off 19 deliveries and the South African legend was sent packing for a single digit score. This comes after de Villiers displayed his brilliance in the previous match and Kohli had to take a backseat.
Kohli also made a blunder of all sorts while KXIP came out to chase a total of 172 runs. Apart from Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal, Isuru Udana was third most economical bowler in the side but Kohli relied on Mohammed Siraj to bowl the 16th over and he was dispatched for 20 runs. Incidentally, Udana bowled only two overs in the match at an economy rate of 7.00.
With RCB making a dream start to their campaign, Kohli will have to plan better or else they might lose their way in the second half of the campaign
