The national selection committee has decider to pick the Test and ODI teams for the New Zealand tour after a few days having gathered concrete information on the fitness of all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
"There isn't going to be too much of brainstorming with regards to the team. But a fit Hardik is a necessity. The moment NCA (National Cricket Academy) gives Hardik green light to play competitive cricket, he will be an automatic choice. So the selectors will wait for a few more days," said a senior BCCI official as quoted by PTI without revealing his name.
The meeting was earlier expected to be take place on Sunday, but lack of insight into Hardik's fitness resulted in a delay in the decision-making. The all-rounder is a vital part of the Indian side considering the upcoming World T20, with his availability an area of huge importance for the selection committee
In case of Hardik Pandya being unfit for a crucial away series against New Zealand, there is talk with regard to Suryakumar Yadav's inclusion in the side after an excellent performance for India-A and in domestic cricket recently.
Kedar Jadhav however is not considered as a serious option for the selection process, as confirmed by a BCCI source.
"Kedar is certainly not going to play 2023 World Cup and doesn't even bowl now. Since he is not in T20, no point in carrying him to New Zealand. Possibly Surya or Rahane should be tried," concluded a BCCI source, privy to selection matters.
