IPL Snippets: The battle of the spouses

At the beginning of this millennium, the term WAG became a popular one related to international sportspersons. It referred to their “wives and girlfriends”, specifically when they would accompany them on tour and watch their matches in the stadiums.

While India was a conservative country and avoided promoting WAGs on tours, we finally succumbed when Bollywood star Anushka Sharma and then girlfriend of Team India captain Virat Kohli officially accompanied him on a tour some years back.

Of course now WAGs are everywhere and very prominent in IPL 2018.
