Matrubhumi Ponkunnam win Kerala Red Bull Battle

Kottayam (Kerala), Dec 2 (IANS) In an exciting final of the third edition of Red Bull Battle for the State 2019 Matrubhumi Ponkunnam (Lucky Star Undaplavu) emerged victorious after a display of superb work on the nets in the final match against City Tigers Kanjirappily (Priya Memadangu).

The tournament witnessed high quality volleyball at St. Thomas Church Stadium, Kallara, Kottayam as Seven Star (Pathanamthetta), M. A College (Kothamangalam), Mathrubhumi (Ponkunnam), City Tigers (Kanjirappilly), Mass Moothakunnam (Paravoor) and N.V.C Volley club (Naddukandom) were the clubs that qualified after winning the qualifiers.

The qualifiers of the third edition of Red Bull Battle for the State - a first-of-its-kind volleyball championship - were held in six different locations across God's own country. Each location had on an average 20 teams competing to reach the state finals.

On emerging as the champions of this tournament, winning team Matrubhumi Ponkunnam member Sudhir said: "It has been an amazing tournament for the team. We have practiced our skills from the qualifiers to the finals and it feels great to win the third edition of Red Bull Battle for the State. The format of the tournament is very challenging and competitive. We would like to thank Red Bull for giving us the wings and opportunities like these which help encourage and nurture volleyball talent in the state."
