A professional run chase helped Chennai Super Kings snap their 5-match losing streak against Mumbai Indians as they won the Indian Premier League Season 13 opener against the defending champions by 5 wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
In the process, CSK skipper MS Dhoni became the first captain in IIPL history to win 100 matches.
Chennai lost their openers in the first two overs, but Ambati Rayudu along with Faf du Plessis added 115 for the third wicket to set the tone for the chase. When Rayudu fell, one would've thought for some tricky situation but MS Dhoni promoted Sam Curran ahead of himself and Kedar Jadhav and it turned out a masterstroke as he slammed 18 off just 6 balls to take them closer. Eventually, Faf stayed till the end, completing his half ton and taking the team home.
Earlier, after a good start, Mumbai Indians (MI) managed just 22 runs and lost three wickets in the last three overs to be restricted to 162/9 by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) opener at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
