Questions remained unanswered as MS Dhoni stepped on the field for the first time after the 2019 World Cup. Although Dhoni is a retired cricketer now with his focus solely remaining on the IPL,it looks like he has run out of fuel.
Dhoni, on Saturday, returned to the cricket field precisely after 15 months, 62 weeks, 437 days and 10,488 hours as all eyes were glued on television sets just to watch the former Indian captain in action once again.
But there were some glitches, uneasiness clearly visible in his game.
MS Dhoni glitches
Dhoni called it correctly as he opted to send the defending champions to bat. His response to presenter Murali Kartik while discussing about the social distancing norms during the toss also showed that he is still at his witty best.
But enter the match. Dhoni is known for his reading of the game. But there was a situation when leg spinner Piyush Chawla coaxed him to take a DRS review and Dhoni obliged. It was a rare sight as usually Dhoni is confident about what he is seeing on the pitch. And the decision was ruled in favour of the batsman.
Dhoni then decided to promote young England all-rounder Sam Curran ahead of him. The stage was set for Dhoni, the finisher, after Ravindra Jadeja was sent packing in the 18th over but the captain had different ideas and he justified it in the post-match interview.
Although, it still looks like Dhoni has not lost the midas touch as a captain, and his decision helped his team succeed against a much powerful side on paper. His retirement looks justified as he seemed used up as a cricketer.
However, the fans will still await a finishing knock from him....
