On Rahul Dravid's 48th birthday, Team India took a leaf out of the Test specialist's book as they batted out 131 overs with grit and determination to save the controversial third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The result ensured the series remained level at 1-1, with a match to go.
After Rishabh Pant 97 and Cheteshwar Pujara 77 gave hopes of an unlikely India win on the final day, the former with his counter-attack and the latter with his solid defense, R Ashwin and a hamstrung Hanuma Vihari saw off almost 300 (289 to be exact) deliveries in their 50-plus sixth-wicket partnership to eke out a draw.
The 131 overs, the most number of overs India have batted in the fourth innings since 1980, is the most overs batted out by an Asian team in the 4th innings Down Under.
