Smith smacks ton, bowlers join party
Australia's captain-in-waiting Steven Smith scored his second hundred of the Ashes series as Australia piled up a daunting 481 in the first innings of the fifth and final Ashes Test at the Oval. Australia may have lost the series but it seems Michael Clarke might well end his career on a winning note as Smith's 143 knocked down England. To make matters worse for the hosts, their batting collapsed dramatically as the Australian bowlers wrecked havoc. England will now have to recover from their first innings humiliation and produce something special to deny Clarke a winning farewell.
