On their part, Royal Challengers Bangalore have to win all their remaining matches in the IPL to have any chance of making it to the play-offs. Once they do that, then they have to rely on other results to have a chance. Having won just one match till now, RCB had everything to play for against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens and that meant the onus was on their batsmen to put a big total on the board.
Their captain Virat Kohli made sure he took care of the first part. Cometh the hour, cometh the man! Virat once again proved that he is the go-to man when the chips are down.
Against Kolkata, he smashed a 58-ball 100, his first of the season and fifth overall in the IPL. His innings that included nine fours and four sixes helped Bangalore put up a huge total of 213 for the loss of four wickets.
For company, the Bangalore captain had Moeen Ali. The England player smashed a 28-ball 66 and added 90 runs with his captain.
Virat's presence at the crease till the last ball of the innings meant that the visitors scored 143 runs in the last ten overs. What it also means is that team RCB is still in the hunt as far as a play-off spot is concerned.
This, after they narrowly beat Kolkata by ten runs to record their second win of the tournament.
