At their annual showcase event, Apple introduced iOS26 which features a Liquid Glass interface and enhanced AI…
Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 was held on June 10 and the theme of this year’s event was transformation – of the interface as well as the intelligence that powers it. The main design change was the new Liquid Glass user interface, the deeper integration of AI with Apple Intelligence. There were also major upgrades announced across iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS and visionOS.
The event clearly showcases Apple’s commitment of catching up in the AI race. Here’s a deeper look into everything that was announced:
Introducing the Liquid Glass Interface
The Liquid Glass interface is Apple’s boldest UI refresh in over a decade. Described as a “glass-like” experience, the new design brings translucent layers, fluid animations and spatial depth to icons, widgets and core system elements. The lock screen and the home screen as well as apps like Safari and Music now have floating controls and glassy visual effects. This echoes Apple’s design language for visionOS.
iPhones from the 15 series as well as newer models will support the Liquid Glass UI and public betas will be rolling out soon. The change is not just for a superior look, it is designed to feel more immersive and alive.
Apple Intelligence: AI that’s Personal
With Apple Intelligence, its system-wide, on-device AI layer, Apple has taken a major leap into the world of AI. With its integration with iOS 26, macOS Tahoe and other platforms, it allows users to:
- Summarize emails and notifications
- Auto-complete messages with context
- Translate calls in real-time
- Create personalized emoji, also called Genmoji
There’s also a new feature called Visual Intelligence that makes AI not just assistive but also proactive. It allows users to copy text or get information from photos, documents or even app screens.
Siri is also set to get smarter but its full capabilities are slightly delayed.

Ecosystem Upgrades Across Devices
The Liquid Glass UI as well as the Apple Intelligence enhancements are been added to all Apple devices:
- macOS Tahoe will support spatial UI elements, improved Spotlight as well as multitasking features.
- iPadOS 26 has added resizable windows and a floating menu bar, inching closer to a Mac-like experience.
- watchOS 11 will bring gesture controls, an AI-powered coach called Workout Buddy as well as improved health insights.
- tvOS 18 and visionOS 2 will both feature subtle design improvements and better integration with Apple’s AI tools.
Apple Maps, Safari, Messages and even Calendar have been redesigned to feel more intuitive, personalized and consistent across all Apple devices.
Tools for Developers
There are updated Human Interface Guidelines for developers to support Liquid Glass. There are also new APIs for Apple Intelligence and Genmoji. There is also support for spatial computing in visionOS that will help developers design more immersive and shared AR experiences.
With a unified design language and AI tools, Apple is paving the way for a seamless cross-device experience for users as well as creators.

Apple Stocks take a hit
Despite the announcements, Wall Street clearly was not impressed as Apple stock fell 1.5% after the keynote. The biggest drop happened after it was announced that the Siri revamp would be delayed.
It seems like investors were hoping for a generative AI that would rival Microsoft’s Copilot and Google’s Gemini. But with Apple’s cautious approach that focusses on user privacy and AI upgrades, the stock took a hit, with billions being wiped off Apple’s market cap.
The Last Word
The WWDC 2025 delivered on aesthetics and AI upgrades. With Liquid Glass, Apple has unified the look and feel which feels fresh yet familiar. Apple Intelligence will also come in handy for users who value privacy and on-device processing.
But in the race for AI dominance, Apple seems to be falling behind and that is a genuine cause for concern. Whether they will pay dearly for this remains to be seen.
