To enhance privacy and security of personal and group chats, the Meta-owned company has introduced a new feature…
In a bid to enhance users’ control over their conversations, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Advanced Chat Privacy. This prevents users from sharing and retention of content within the app and thereby provides an added level of security to sensitive conversations.
Key Features of Advanced Chat Privacy
When activated for a specific chat or group chat, the Advanced Chat Privacy offers the following protections:
- Prevents Chat Export: Members of that conversation are restricted from exporting the chat history, thereby ensuring that the conversation remains within WhatsApp.
- Blocks Automatic Media Downloads: Media files downloaded in the chat or the group chat will not be automatically downloaded to devices, thereby reducing unintended storage and sharing.
- Limits AI Usage: Messages from the chat cannot be used for AI features. This also helps in maintaining the privacy of the conversation.
How to enable Advanced Chat Privacy
To activate the Advanced Chat Privacy feature on your WhatsApp, follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp and go to a specific chat or group.
- Tap on the chat name to access the chat information.
- Select the Advanced Privacy Option.
- Toggle the setting to On.
The feature is currently being rolled out to all users. Most users are likely to find this feature already but if you can’t find it in yours yet, check if your WhatsApp is updated to the latest version.
Building upon Existing Privacy Measures
In recent years, WhatsApp has increased its focus on user and chat privacy. It has regularly introduced features like end-to-end encryption, disappearing messages and chat locks. These tools help users exert control over their private conversations and personal data.
The Advanced Chat Privacy feature is another step in the right direction.
The Last Word
According to the company, this is just another step towards their aim of ensuring full user protection when it come to their chat and content. They plan to add more features to increase the priavacy and security of their communications. Stay tuned for more updates.
