India cricketer Hardik Pandya was recently spotted by paparazzi with a strange yellow phone. Adarsh tells you all about it.
Maybe it was a very well-timed marketing masterstroke. Or perhaps he got to test it early because he is soon to be made a brand ambassador. Or they picked him at random considering he is bound to get them some free publicity as a well-known Indian cricketer.

But one way or the other, Indian cricket all-rounder Hardik Pandya was recently photographed by paparazzi while using a mysterious yellow phone. He was seen browsing and making a call on the bulky yellow phone with the prominent back camera in a square grid.
What phone is it?
Well, the mystery has been solved! The phone in question is the all new Poco X5 which is soon to be released in India with a starting price of ₹16,999. Available in assorted color options, it comes with a 6.67 inches (16.94 cm) display that has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 Pixels.
What are its specifications?
Poco X5 is powered with Octa core (2.4 GHz, Single core, Kryo 475 + 2.2 GHz, Single core, Kryo 475 + 1.8 GHz, Hexa Core, Kryo 475) Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor which ensures a seamless performance while accessing multiple applications simultaneously. The phone also comes with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB in-built storage so storing various files like songs, videos, games and more should not be a problem and there is no need to worry about space constraints.
Apart from that, the Poco X5 runs Android v11 operating system and has a decent 6000 mAh battery that ensures a longer time duration while watching movies, listening to songs, playing games, or doing other stuff.
The camera specifications of the phone are quite interesting. The Poco X5 comes with a Single camera setup on the rear which has 64 MP + 13 MP + 5 MP + 2 MP cameras. Features on the rear camera setup include Digital Zoom, Auto Flash, Face Detection and Touch To Focus. On the front, the mobile features a 16 MP front camera so that you can click some amazing selfies and do video chats.
Various connectivity options on the Poco X5 include WiFi – Yes, Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth – Yes, v5.1, and 4G (supports Indian bands), 3G, 2G. Sensors on the Poco X5 include Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer and Compass.
Is it worth the wait?
The POCO X-series was launched in 2020 with the POCO X2. But, it was the POCO X3 which launched later the same year that brought the limelight on the series. Afterall, it was rare to see a mid-range smartphone with high-refresh-rate displays, fast charging, and even NFC back in 2020. The device packed in a 120 Hz panel, a 5,160 mAh battery with 33W fast charging, a 64-Megapixel camera, and more.
But POCO was not satisfied and decided to upgrade in just a few months. It soon launched the POCO X3 Pro at ₹19,580 with a very appealing Snapdragon 860. That chipset was a revamped Snapdragon 855+, offering the flagship level of performance. It was miles above the Snapdragon 732 on the regular X3. POCO had to cut some corners and downgraded the 64-Megapixel camera to a 48-Megapixel unit. Furthermore, it did not have 5G connectivity. But that did not stop the POCO X3 Pro from becoming an overnight sensation!
POCO X5 Pro
So, a lot was expected when the POCO X4 Pro launched last year but it failed to surpass its predecessor. POCO added 5G but to keep the price range below ₹20,000, they decided to go with the Snapdragon 695. It was a good chipset, but the performance was not on par with the Snapdragon 8XX series. To make the smartphone more appealing, POCO brought a 108-Megapixel camera to the handset. But despite this, the X4 Pro did not fare like the X3 Pro did.
The POCO X5 Pro will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G. The chipset is getting old at this point but is still efficient and fast enough for the mid-range segment. In terms of storage, the X5 Pro will have 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of Storage. Unlike its predecessor, the phone may ditch the micro-SD card slot.
Considering everything we have seen, the POCO X5 Pro may not be a true upgrade if you are looking for anything but performance. The Snapdragon 778G is better than the Snapdragon 695 but the smartphone is identical to its predecessor in other aspects. The POCO X4 Pro gets the lead in the display department, and its camera setup is not outdated compared to the newer model.
